BC newsreaders Clive Myrie and Naga Munchetty delivered the news of George Alagiah’s death on BBC News. The award-winning journalist, who presented the BBC News At Six for the past 20 years, passed away on Monday at the age of 67. Alagiah had been battling bowel cancer since 2014. Clive Myrie became emotional as he paid tribute to Alagiah during the lunchtime BBC News broadcast, describing him as a mentor, colleague, and friend. Naga Munchetty also became choked up as she interrupted her live show on BBC Radio 5 Live to deliver the news. Alagiah’s agent, Mary Greenham, released a statement saying that he fought until the end and was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. Alagiah, who joined the BBC in 1989, was known for his coverage of various global events and his interviews with political figures. Colleagues and friends from the industry paid tribute to his journalistic skills and his kind and principled nature. Alagiah is survived by his wife, two sons, and three grandchildren.
