The reality TV star and former “Jon & Kate Plus 8” cast member, Kate Gosselin, has broken her silence regarding the allegations made by her son, Colin.
In an Instagram post on July 21, Kate opened up about the claims Colin made, accusing her of causing a rift between him and his siblings.
Kate admitted that she never wanted to publicly address this matter, but she felt compelled to do so due to the circumstances. She stated, “I have been backed into a corner and left with no choice.”
Furthermore, she revealed that Colin has been diagnosed with multiple psychiatric conditions over the years, which led to his treatment at a specialized facility after outpatient treatment proved ineffective.
Kate shares 19-year-old sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel, as well as 22-year-old twins Mady and Cara, with her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin.
Kate expressed her concern about Collin’s behavior since his move from the facility in 2016 to live with Jon and his sister Hannah. She stated, “Following Jon’s removal of Collin from treatment, my son’s unpredictable and violent behavior has sadly continued regularly towards Jon, Hannah, and others around him.”
Having had her family’s life documented on TLC from 2007 to 2017, Kate shared the challenges of dealing with a family member who struggles with mental health issues.
Kate defended her actions in the past, stating that she followed the advice of Collin’s pediatric psychiatrist and team of specialists. These measures were taken to ensure the safety of all family members, friends, and even their pets.
Kate concluded her post by reflecting on her son’s current state, expressing concern and stating, “Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help.” She further mentioned that their interactions with him have been limited due to his past violent tendencies.
Collin, in a Vice TV episode of “Dark Side of the 2000s,” claimed that Kate played a significant role in causing a rift between him and his siblings. However, he expressed hope for a reconciliation, saying, “I really, really hope one day that we can all reconnect and put the show behind us and just be siblings again.”
In the same episode, Jon confessed that he has limited access to the children that Kate has custody of since their 2009 divorce, revealing, “I have no answers. Like, none. It’s the worst.”
Mady Gosselin, reacting to Colin’s allegations, criticized him for his comments about their family. She stated, “I do not owe my allegiance to any person(s) who has physically threatened me and every member of my immediate family.”
Jon commended Collin for speaking out about his experiences and expressed disappointment with Mady’s response. He said, “It took courage for Collin to sit down and speak about his past, and the last thing I would have expected was more abuse to come his way from a sibling that hasn’t seen or spoken to him since he was in sixth grade,” when talking to People.
