Phu Quoc island travel guide, Vietnam – best beaches, hotels and food

Phu Quoc is an island located off the Cambodian coast in Vietnam’s Gulf of Thailand. It is a popular destination for tourists of all budgets due to its beautiful beaches and national park. However, the island is undergoing changes with the construction of large resorts. It is recommended to visit soon to enjoy the untouched nature, hidden beaches, and local bars, cafes, and restaurants.

The main beach on the island is Long Beach, also known as Duong Duong, where you can find beach clubs, restaurants, shops, and bars. If you prefer a quieter beach, you can head north to Ong Lang, which has a few resorts, limestone rocks, and a fabulous restaurant called “On The Rock” at Mango Bay.

The south of the island is home to some of the best beaches, thanks to the cooling breeze from the sea. You can also enjoy the local cuisine while visiting Phu Quoc, with options ranging from street food to high-end seafood restaurants. Some must-try dishes include Phu Quoc-style herring salad, bún kèn (ken noodles), and grilled sea urchins.

In terms of activities, you can participate in water sports, diving, hiking to waterfalls, fishing trips, and visiting temples and pagodas. There is also a cable car that takes you to a small island called Hon Thom, and an amusement park called “VinWonders”.

When it comes to accommodation, Phu Quoc offers a range of options from budget hostels to luxury hotels. Some recommended hotels include Regent Phu Quoc, La Veranda Resort Phu Quoc, and JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa.

To reach Phu Quoc, most people fly to the island’s international airport. Getting around the island is easy with GrabTaxis, which are affordable and readily available.
