Sinead O’Connor, known for her iconic cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” had initially vowed never to sing another Prince song. However, years later, she changed her mind after meeting Fun Lovin’ Criminals drummer Frank Benbini, who asked her to record a different Prince cover for an album called Purple Reggae. Despite her initial refusal, O’Connor eventually agreed and collaborated with Benbini to record a version of “I Would Die 4 U.” Benbini praised O’Connor as a talented and strong artist who was often misunderstood. He hopes that people will discover and appreciate her extensive body of work beyond her famous Prince cover.
