According to trainer Billy Nelson, Martin Bakole is confident in his ability to take on and defeat Deontay Wilder in a heavyweight title bout.
Nelson stated that Bakole would not hesitate to fight Wilder if a matchup with Andy Ruiz doesn’t materialize. He believes that the fight between Bakole and Wilder, both possessing devastating knockout power, would be explosive.
Nelson expressed utmost confidence in Bakole’s skills, stating that Bakole is far too skilled for Wilder and will eventually defeat him. Bakole has been steadily climbing the ranks since his defeat to Michael Hunter in 2018 and has won his last eight fights, extending his record to 19-1.
The potential matchup between Bakole and Wilder holds significance as both fighters hold the top two spots in the WBA rankings. The winner of their potential fight could earn a shot at the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois.
While Wilder has suffered back-to-back losses to Tyson Fury, he is looking to stay active and learn from new trainer Malik Scott. Bakole is eager to step in if the proposed fight between Wilder and Ruiz doesn’t come to fruition.
Bakole has openly called out fighters like Dillian Whyte, Daniel Dubois, Oleksandr Usyk, and Deontay Wilder, expressing his confidence in his ability to defeat them. BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom also believes that Bakole is ready for big fights and sees Wilder as the logical next opponent for him.
