Wrexham striker Paul Mullin was forced to leave the field with an oxygen mask and was immediately taken to the hospital during a pre-season game against Manchester United. The incident occurred when young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop collided with Mullin after misjudging the flight of the ball. The game was paused for seven minutes while Mullin received medical attention and was given oxygen. Bishop received a yellow card for the challenge. Mullin was able to walk off the field with the oxygen mask still attached, but he was taken to a local hospital for further checks. Bishop faced boos from the fans as he continued to play.
Mullin’s injury came as a blow to Wrexham, who had been enjoying their new following from the United States. He scored an impressive 38 goals in 46 National League games last season. Wrexham will be hoping that his injury is not serious after he is examined by doctors.
Wrexham went on to win the game 3-1, with Elliot Lee and Aaron Hayden scoring goals for the team. United’s Marc Jurado scored a goal just before halftime, but they were unable to make a comeback. This was United’s first pre-season defeat, although they were without their first-team stars.
